ibc

i went to ibc this past weekend.  i went up there mainly to get away from here.  i wanted to visit my old pastor and see some friends from houston that go to the school that i haven’t seen in a while.

it was an awesome trip.  i got there friday morning and went to a couple of the classes: science in the bible and salvation.  i really enjoyed the first one because it was right up my alley.  then i had lunch (it was chicken finger friday) and went back to the waldron’s house for a nap.  later that evening i joined the school for their annual  christmas banquet and had a great time eating the absolute best green beans ever. after that was over, about 11 of us made it over to the henderson’s house and played games and drank coffee until around 1 30.

saturday i slept in pretty late and then ran some errands with the waldrons.  we met up with chris and leah in the evening and went duck pin bowling.  it is called that because the pins are shorter and fatter and look like ducks sitting at the end of the lane.

sunday was church and it was awesome.  they are in the middle of a building project and sunday night they raised $100,000 just from the congregation towards the goal.  i was stunned at how much they were able to give.  it was amazing.

monday i made it home and i was glad to be home.  it wasn’t really a restful trip but that is ok.  i had a great time and i met some really cool people that i am going to do my best to stay in touch with lol.

let’s find real talent please

there is nothing that gets on my nerves more than when something is sold, promoted, or “praised” because involved in the product is a girl (or guy for that matter) that is pleasing to the eye. i hate it when they sell soda based on 4 girls dancing rather than convincing me that it tasted better than the rest. i cringe when i see beauty being used as a tool or as leverage to rise higher in the ranks of society. not that i’m against beauty or beautiful people. that’s not what i meant. i just wish that we would grow up enough to be able to buy products based on their worthiness and not on what hot model is advertising it or what celebrity says he uses it.

i won’t really rant about that now though. this post is actually designed to be a humorous one and the video will explain all. it’s kind of amazing when you think about what we can do with computers these days. all they really need to make a pop star is a hot body. that’s what the above paragraph was about. wouldn’t it be nice if the only “talent” we were exposed to was real talent? because you know it’s out there. nickel creek, or the 5 browns, or the many symphonies around the world, they exhibit years of practice and work at what they perform. and that’s just music. what about art or literature? so much gets passed off these days as “quality works” when anybody could have painted it (just look at the clayton state walls for some perfect examples). and it takes more to be a poem than rhyming. even all prose can’t be considered poetry. i feel that poetry should be classified as such when it evokes an emotion from the reader.

well, i guess i did rant. oh well. i hope you enjoy the video! :)
