why does logic have to play a part?

i can’t afford a mac.  not the one i want anyway.

what i would really like is a 17″ macbook pro with 2 gigs of ram, 120 gig hard drive, boot camp with windows xp, the cool little cd slot, and the magnetic power charger.  but this setup would cost me about $3000 and practically, it’s not practical.  I can get a dell that has pretty much the same specs for about half the cost.  it doesn’t look as cool and it doesn’t have the “aura” that the mac does, but it gets me what i need (which is a new, upgraded computer) and it doesn’t add debt to my name.

so i guess i’ll take the big boy route on this one and make a grown up decision: buy the computer that meets my needs instead of the cool one.

thanksgiving

i guess there will be a lot of people posting thanksgiving quips on their blogs.  so this is mine.

i went to san antonio for the holiday weekend.  or as mia says it: ant santonio.  it was a brutal 16 hour drive and i was exhausted when i got there.  i took my best friend with me but she wasn’t feeling well on the way up there so we kept her drugged up and sleeping.  she did find time to drop a plate on my computer though and popped off three of the keys.  on of them went back on just fine but the v and the h keys were officially broken.  i have fogiven her.  ;)  i have only been that tired a few times in my life.  the bed at the hotel was like a rock but they were clean and i was on my back so i slept hard.

so i spent the next couple of days hanging out with my cousins, playing football and video games and eating everything i could get my hands on.  there were about 8 or so of us that got up at 4 am to go participate in black friday.  we got to kohl’s at 4 30 and there was already a pretty big line.  we went there to get some luggage that was going for an amazing price.  a 7 piece set for $40.  it was a $100 markoff.  there were only about 20 in the store and we got three within our little group.  i went back to the hotel after we were all done shopping around 8 and crased again.  later, we went to sea world and saw shamu (all three of him) do some pretty cool things in the massive swimming pool.   riss and i rode the two roller coasters that were there and met back up with some of the family to go feed the dolphins.

then on saturday we started the long drive back.  this time we broke it up by stopping at my sister’s house in houston for the night.  there i watched georgia tech fall apart and visited with mia some more.  the next day was nothing but driving again.  after getting held up by two wrecks, we finally made it back sunday night around 10.

all in all it was an excellent trip.

Flikr and my weekend

The Big Machinei got a flickr account….finally. i guess my main motivation for actually signing up was a recent event. i went over to chris templeman’s house for a tabletop battle royale and got a ton of pictures of me slaughtering his tyranid army. i have put a lot of effort into painting these little plastic pieces and i wanted to see how they would stand up against some close up shots from quality camera. i then wanted to share these photos with friends and the easiest way to do that is to load them onto the web.

i also wanted to ability to put pictures in this blog. so now, i can link to the photos i have i my flickr account for any that are relevant to what i am writing about.

ao that’s it really. i’ll spare you guys from the details of the “fights” that took place on his table because i’m afraid it would bore most of you. the short story is i won and it was fun. :)

a new semester

it’s kind of funny because everyone that cares about school is starting to focus on next semester.  we are a little more than halfway done with this one and i’m worried about my schedule in january.

i’m doing my best to get out of here and on with my life.  part of that process is taking the classes that my advisors think i should.  i have the option of taking 33 hours of electives or minoring in an approved area or taking 12 hours of upper level computer science courses.  well, i am interseted in the computer science field so that made me want to take that option.  the problem is that my school doesn’t even offer those courses.  i am currently in the process of finding out which information technology courses would be accepted as upper level computer science.

my other thought is to just minor in IT.  i’m not sure what all that would entail though.  the thing about all of this that i don’t like is that it is sounding like i am going to be in school for longer than i want.  either of those routes is going to take some prerequisites which means another semster or two.   i will get my bachelor’s degree before my dad gets his though.  the race is on.
